Gongthung farmers supply local produce directly to a local middle secondary school 👥

In Gongthung village in Trashigang, four vegetable groups deliver farm produce to Gongthung Middle Secondary School every Tuesday and Saturday. A local poultry farm supplies eggs while the Gongthung dairy group supplies milk and dairy products to the school mess. Together, the community farmers earn about Nu 250,000 a month, which equals roughly 42 per cent of the total meal stipend received by the school. Farmer Yeshi Lhamo stated that individual vegetable earnings range between Nu 300 and Nu 9,000 monthly depending on the quantity and crop type. Income improved after the government revised the boarders' monthly meal stipend from Nu 1,500 to Nu 3,100 last year. Poultry farmer Kintu reported earning between Nu 100,000 and Nu 120,000 monthly from egg supplies following the budget increase. School mess in-charge Wang Gyeltshen noted that bananas and apples are still sourced from outside, though local farmers have now started growing bananas.
