Heavy rains kill eight in Thailand and eight in Myanmar ⚠️
Bangkok and surrounding provinces have been battling flooding for a fourth consecutive day after an intense weather system hit the region. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reports eight deaths in three eastern Thai provinces since September 16, with none in the capital. In Bangkok, more than 80,000 people cannot leave their homes and schools have closed, prompting a work‑from‑home advisory. Resident Nattapon Mankean described losing electricity and water, forcing him and his girlfriend to flee with two cats. Authorities declared a city‑wide disaster on Saturday and waters remain thigh‑high in some areas. In Myanmar’s Tanintharyi region, rescuers say at least eight people are dead and 20‑30 are missing after landslides swept villages. Volunteer Hein Htet warned that villages remain in danger zones as rain continues, complicating relief in the conflict‑affected area. Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said pumping stations are operating at full capacity but full drainage could take up to a week. Thousands of residents have moved to temporary shelters while floodwaters slowly recede, according to government spokesman Ekkapob Pianpises.
