OPINION McNinch: End education welfare
Our government loves to let things fester and boil over. Instead of framing and solving problems, elected minions simply describe and whine about things. They tend to take responsibility for nothing and blame everyone else. A good example is the punching bag the government uses called the Guam Education Board. This General Election there are four candidates running for the Guam Education Board. Since there are six open seats, all four will be elected and the Legislature will likely have to scramble to fill the two vacant elected seat as well as the two vacant appointed seats. If I had it my way, all nine regular board members would be elected and the terms would be six years. This would allow the public to elect three members every two years with staggered terms. Please vote for all four candidates running for education board, it will show the Legislature that education is important. Even if we started the 2027 year with a full board, it would be very difficult to improve anything. The board only exists to allow the Legislature to shift blame away from themselves. At its very core, this is because the Legislature operates public education like it is a welfare system. Even if you disagree with me, you may find some points in my views that ring true.
