Chartered Accountant testifies to variance in votes recorded for APNU+AFC in 2020 Elections

Chartered Accountant, Terrence Jaskaran, who was considered by the Court today to be an expert in forensic auditing notwithstanding the Defense’s objection, testified that A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) had a variance of more than 20,000 votes when the certified copies of the Region 4 Statements of Poll (SOPs) were compared to the March 5 Declaration made during the course of the 2020 General Elections. Jaskaran was the sole witness to take the stand today as the 2020 Elections Case continued in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Principal Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty. Led by Special Prosecutor, Darshan Ramdhani, Jaskaran testified that on August 21, 2020, he was hired by the Ministry of Home Affairs as a Forensic Audit Consultant under the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). He told the Court that in May, 2021, he received a request from a Police officer for a “tabulation and “verification analysis” to be conducted on the certified copies of the SOPs from the March 2, 2020 General and Regional Elections. Jaskaran, the Court was told, was also expected to compare the declarations made using “Form 24” and generate a report. The certified copies of the SOPs were uplifted on May 29, 2021 from the High Court, and on June 3, 2021, Jaskaran reportedly began the tabulation exercise. That exercise, according to him, was completed on July 28, 2021 and a report was generated.
