APC campaign council tells Peter Obi to quit 2027 presidential race over debt 🏛️
The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has called on Peter Obi to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race. In a statement issued on Monday by spokesperson Dele Alake, the council said disclosures by the Anambra State Government regarding financial records under the former governor contradicted his claims of handing over the state without liabilities. The state government reported that Mr Obi's administration spent about $4.05 billion, valued at N5.4 trillion, during eight years in office and contracted $123.77 million in external loans. Eight external borrowings for malaria control, erosion management, education and healthcare remained on the books when Mr Obi handed over on March 17, 2014, and subsequent administrations continued to service them. The controversy started after Anambra State Commissioner for Finance Izuchukwu Okafor said the Soludo administration was still repaying past debts. Mr Obi rejected the claim, stating he did not leave Anambra owing salaries, pensions, gratuities or contractors, and challenged the government to provide evidence.
