2027 digital planner for GoodNotes: how to choose and use it

What a hyperlinked PDF planner is, how ISO week numbers and links work, which app features matter, and honest limits on sync and use.

A digital planner is a PDF you write on with a stylus, in an app such as GoodNotes or Notability. The good ones are dated and linked, so a tap on a date opens that day. This guide explains what to look for before you choose one, how the week numbering works, and what a planner can and cannot do.

What a digital planner is, and what it is not

A planner of this kind is one PDF file, with pages for the year, each month, each week and each day. Taps on tabs and dates jump between pages. You write on the pages with a stylus or type into them, depending on your app. It is not a calendar app: it does not send reminders, it does not read your Google or Apple calendar, and it does not update itself. It is paper's layout with paper's strengths: you see the whole week at once and you decide what to write.

That is also its limit. If you need alerts, shared calendars or automatic scheduling, use a calendar app, and use the planner for the thinking: goals, priorities and notes.

What to check before you choose

  1. Is it dated for the right year? A 2027 planner has the right weekdays for 2027, and the dates on each month page link to the correct day page.
  2. Does it start the week on the right day? Some people plan Monday to Sunday and others Sunday to Saturday. A good planner offers both.
  3. Are the links real? Open the sample and tap tabs, dates and week numbers. Links are the whole point.
  4. Does it suit your app? Not all apps treat links the same way. In GoodNotes, for example, you may need the read-only mode, or to tap with a finger while the pen is not selected, to follow a link. Test it.
  5. Is it comfortable to write on? Look at the line spacing and the space for each day. A page that looks tidy but leaves no room is no use.
  6. Light or dark? A dark theme can be easier in the evening. Choose with your eyes.
  7. Does it hold what you actually plan? Habits, goals, a budget page and notes are useful. Pages you will never use only add weight to the file.

How the weeks are numbered

A week number is a label for a calendar week. The international standard, ISO 8601, numbers weeks from Monday, and week 1 is the week that contains the first Thursday of the year. Many countries use it. Some countries, and some apps, number weeks in other ways, so a week number in your planner may differ from one in a calendar from a different region. Check which rule your planner uses. A planner that starts on Monday and shows ISO numbers matches the ISO rule.

In 2027, week 1 begins on Monday 4 January. Week 10 runs from Monday 8 March to Sunday 14 March, and week 52 ends on Sunday 2 January 2028. The first three days of 2027, Friday 1 January to Sunday 3 January, belong to ISO week 53 of 2026.

That explains the number of weekly pages. A Monday-start planner for 2027 needs one page for the part-week that begins in December 2026, plus the 52 ISO weeks of 2027. That makes 53 weekly pages. The planner covers the 365 days of 2027 on 365 daily pages.

Here is how it helps in use. Suppose a report is due in week 10. You tap week 10 on the March month page and open the week of 8 to 14 March. You can write the task on the day it must be done and a smaller step on each earlier day. The week number is a label for finding the page, and it does not schedule anything on its own.

A year, a month, a week, a day

The layers have different jobs.

  • Year: your goals and the big dates. Write few of them.
  • Month: the calendar and a habit tracker. Look at it at the start of the month to see the shape of the weeks.
  • Week: where you decide what matters. A short list of priorities beats a long list of wishes.
  • Day: an hourly schedule, a top-three list and a to-do list.

Gollwitzer and Sheeran (2006) reviewed studies of "implementation intentions", which are plans of the form "when this happens, I will do that". They found that such specific plans helped people act on their goals. The studies are not about planners, but a daily page with a time and a place for each important task is that kind of plan. Writing "Tuesday 9:00, finish the first draft, at my desk" is more likely to be done than "work on the report".

Habits and the other pages

A monthly habit tracker lets you see at a glance how many days you kept a habit. It is a record, not a coach. If you miss a day, mark it and go on. Extra pages, such as a budget, project pages, a reading list and notes, are a convenience: they keep everything you plan in one file. If you want a spreadsheet for money or projects, keep that in a spreadsheet and use the planner for the plan.

Working with the file

  • Import once. Add the PDF to your app and write in that copy.
  • Back it up. Your handwriting lives in the file. Copy it to a place you trust from time to time.
  • Keep spare pages. Most apps let you duplicate a page. Do that when you need more room on a notes page.
  • Mind the size. A year of daily pages is a big file. If an app is slow, close other documents.

What a planner will not do

A planner does not create the time. Planning every hour can make a day that goes differently feel like a failure. A kinder use is to plan the top three tasks and leave the rest loose. Over-complete pages are a risk of their own: if you stop writing in them in February, the planner has not failed, and you can pick it up again in any week, because every page links to every other.

Try it for a week first

Before you commit a whole year to a planner, import the sample pages, or the first month, and use them for a week. Notice whether tapping the tabs feels natural, whether the day pages have the space you need and whether you open the file without being reminded. If something is wrong, you have lost little. If it works, carry on with the full year and keep one backup copy of the file.

Tool that fits

The 2027 Digital Planner (EUR 12, paid once) is a hyperlinked PDF of 456 dated pages: a year overview and goals page, a calendar and habit tracker for each month, 53 weekly pages and 365 daily pages. Tabs on every page jump to the year, any month, goals, notes and the index, and a date or a week number on a month page opens that day or week. Daily pages have an hourly schedule, a top-three list, a to-do list and dotted notes. At the back are a budget page, two project pages, a reading list and six notes pages. The download has four PDFs: Monday start with ISO week numbers, and Sunday start, each in a light and a dark theme. You import the one you like into GoodNotes, Notability or another PDF app that supports links. It does not sync, it does not send reminders and it is a digital file, not a printed book.

What to do next

The 2027 Digital Planner is a hyperlinked PDF of 456 dated pages for GoodNotes, Notability and other PDF apps: year, 12 months, 53 weeks and 365 days, in Monday or Sunday start and a light or dark theme. €12 once.

Questions people ask

Does a hyperlinked PDF planner sync between my devices?

The PDF itself does not sync. It is a file. If your note-taking app stores its documents in a cloud service, the app may sync your copy, but that is a feature of the app, not of the PDF. Check how your own app handles this before you rely on it.

Why does the planner have 53 weekly pages when a year has 52 weeks?

1 January 2027 is a Friday, so the first calendar week of the year began in December 2026. A Monday-start planner needs a page for that part-week plus the 52 ISO weeks of 2027, which makes 53 pages. By the ISO 8601 rule, 1 to 3 January 2027 belong to week 53 of 2026.

Will it work in every PDF app?

Not identically. Apps differ in how they handle links, in pen and typing tools and in file size limits. The planner is a standard PDF with links, and it is meant for apps such as GoodNotes, Notability, Noteshelf and Xodo. Test the sample page in your app before you buy.
